Marcello Verga is professor of modern history at the University of Florence. He is the author of Storie d'Europa: Secoli XVIII-XXI (History of Europe: Eighteenth to Twenty-First Centuries) and, with Mario Rosa, Una storia europea: Dal Medioevo ai nostri giorni (A History of Europe: From Medieval Times to the Present).
