Hans Joas is Director of the Max Weber Center at the University of Erfurt (Germany) and Professor of Sociology at the University of Chicago, where he also belongs to the Committee on Social Thought. His books in English include Social Theory: Twenty Introductory Lectures (with Wolfgang Knöbl, 2009) and Do We Need Religion?: On the Experience of Self-Transcendence (2008).
