Between August 2005 and April 2006, I was close to six people who died, including two members of my family, three friends, and a student. I witnessed profound suffering as I helped with the intimate care for my closest friend, and I experienced the shock and sorrow of those who remain after sudden and untimely death. These drawings are a response to such experiences and are part of a series titled “Meditations on Impermanence.” The phenomenal world, the experience of suffering, loss and death, and the great mysteries associated with what comes after this life are the subjects of these works.
