On Christmas Eve, The Washington Post reported that sixteen-year-old Deonte Payton was found shot to death inside an apartment building in the city’s Southeast section. He had been missing for a week and was only found after residents of the building complained of the smell coming from a vacant apartment. The single article was the only one filed by The Post. Other local media added little. Deonte Payton, was, in the words of Post columnist Colbert king, a “one-day story.”
